New metrics needed to assess retail store sales in an omni-channel world. The metrics by which store performance are measured and the effectiveness of those stores within the physical retail real estate portfolio need to be re-evaluated to take account of the changing nature of the shopping journey, guests were told at an Umdasch-hosted debate held in London on 28 February.

New Single-Brand Strategy
From 2013 the shopfitting section of the Umdasch Concern will operate together under the brand UMDASCH Shopfitting. The two previous core brands Assmann Ladenbau and Umdasch Shopfitting have been merged. With the shopfitting for the extension of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, UMDASCH Shopfitting has demonstrated once more its leading role as the “travel retail shopfitter“.

Inspiring: Alpbach International Retail Forum, Customers spellbound by their own performance
160 participants, international lecturers from Peter Sloterdijk to Sir David Chipperfield and a trend-setting programme: from 11 – 13 October 2012 the Umdasch Shop Academy demonstrated once more its blend of attractiveness and topicality at the congress DIE KUNST DER INSZENIERUNG III / STAGECRAFT IN RETAILING III in the Tyrolean mountain village of Alpbach. It offered an eventful cocktail of philosophy, best practices, a creative hothouse atmosphere, fact & fiction, social event and last but not least plenty of space for encounters and networking.

Umdasch Shopfitting: New Brand Strategy
From 2013 the shopfitting division of the Umdasch concern will operate uniformly under the single brand label Umdasch Shopfitting. The new brand will be created from the two present core brands Assmann Ladenbau and Umdasch Shopfitting. “On the one hand, by combining the expertise of both companies we can fulfill better the increasingly multi-disciplinary requirements of the retail sector; and on the other the single-brand strategy will also lend wings to our ambitious expansion plans” said Helmut Neher, Executive Chairman of Umdasch Shopfitting, at a press conference during the Alpbach International Retail Forum.

SHOP aktuell 112 published: In search of new profiles
Issue no. 112 of the international specialist magazine SHOP aktuell has just been published. Innovative shop concepts in shoe retailing form a main focus in this issue. Faced with verticalisation, digitalisation and an increasing interest in the complete outfit, the shoe retail sector is currently searching for new formats and profiles. Some suppliers have already found them.

Peter Sloterdijk on 11.10.2012 in Alpbach: On the theatre of consumption
Peter Sloterdijk will be giving the opening lecture at the Alpbach International Retail Forum DIE KUNST DER INSZENIERUNG III / STAGECRAFT IN RETAILING III on 11 October 2012. Sloterdijk is regarded as one of the most important philosophers of our time. From 2002 until May 2012 Sloterdijk introduced the television talk show “Im Glashaus: Das Philosophische Quartett” (In the Glass House: The Philosophical Quartet) on ZDF together with Rüdiger Safranski, thereby becoming familiar to a wider audience.

The shoe salon in the health resort of Merano
Yes, they still exist – those small, exclusive, owner-run shoe shops and boutiques which are aware of their strengths and which have the confidence to invest in their future. We discovered one such establishment in the famous arcades of the elegant health resort of Merano in South Tyrol (Alto Adige). Its name is Caligula, and it was completely refitted during the spring of 2012 by Umdasch Shopfitting (Consultants/Planners: Geom. Adalbert Hillebrand, Arch. Elena Catto).
